Download: PLS-5 Biases Test Review – LEADERS PDF
Cate Crowley and several recent graduates of the Teachers College Columbia University speech-language pathology program created and presented this poster at the ASHA convention in Chicago, 2013. This is one of a set of two posters discussing issues related to using the PLS-5 in assessment and evaluation of language impairment in children. It highlights the areas of bias within the PLS-5 resulting in misdiagnosis of children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds when the PLS-5 is the basis for diagnosis of langauge impairment. The PLS-5 contains many items biased against children because of the their cultural and linguistic background, socioeconomic status and prior knowledge and experiences.
