This set of short stories was created to evaluate children’s understanding of spoken stories. There are three versions of each, for three different age groups (ages 5 and up).

Todos venían a cenar para celebrar el décimo cumpleaños de Mateo. Mateo quería cenar en
Burger King. Sofie y su hermana mayor fueron las elegidas para recoger la comida. Cuando
llegaron a Burger King tuvieron que esperar mucho tiempo porque estaba muy ocupado.
Finalmente pidieron la comida, pero cuando llegó el momento de pagar, Sofie y su hermana se
dieron cuenta de que no tenían el dinero. Debían de haberlo dejado en la mesa de la cocina.

para el cumpleaños. Sofie y su hermana mayor fueron elegidas para recoger la comida. Venían
10 personas y todos iban a pedir hamburguesas dobles con queso. A Sofie también le tocaron
seis pedidos grandes de papas fritas y un montón de ketchup extra. No tenían que comprar
bebidas porque su tía Rosie, que venía a la fiesta, iba a traerlas todas. Cuando llegó la hora de
pedir, Sofie y su hermana se acordaron del pedido, pero a la hora de pagar no tenían el dinero.
Debieron de dejarlo en la mesa de la cocina.

iban a pedir hamburguesas dobles con queso. A Sofie también le tocaron seis pedidos grandes de
patatas fritas y un montón de ketchup extra. No tenían que comprar ninguna bebida porque su tía
Rosie, que iba a venir a la fiesta, traería todas las bebidas. Cuando Sofie llegó al Burger King,
vio que estaba muy ocupado. La fila para pedir la comida llegaba casi hasta la puerta principal.
Sofie le mandó un mensaje a su madre para que no se preocupara. Por fin llegó su turno. Recordó
el pedido de todos. Pero cuando llegó el momento de pagar, no tenía el dinero. Se dio cuenta de
que se lo había dejado en la mesa de la cocina.

Everyone was coming for dinner to celebrate Matthew’s 10th birthday. Matthew wanted Burger King for dinner. Sofie and her big sister were chosen to pick up the food. When they got to the Burger King they had to wait a long time because it was really busy. Finally they ordered the food, but when it was time to pay, Sofie and her sister realized they did not have the money. They must have left it on the kitchen table!

Danny estaba sentado en clase mirando por la ventana. El cielo estaba gris y hacía mucho frío.
Entonces empezaron a caer copos de nieve. Al principio sólo eran pocos, pero en unos minutos
Danny empezó a ver puros copos de nieve cayendo. En ese momento, el profesor le dijo a la
clase que iba a haber una gran tormenta y que mañana sería día de nieve. Todos empezaron a
aplaudir, reír y celebrar.

bajo un cielo azul y un sol radiante. Pero ahora el cielo estaba gris y hacía frío. De repente,
Danny vio caer del cielo unos copos de nieve. Al principio sólo eran pocos, pero en unos
minutos el cielo estaba lleno de copos de nieve y era lo único que Danny podía ver. En ese
momento el profesor anunció que iba a haber una gran tormenta y que mañana sería día de nieve.

Daniel estaba sentado en clase esperando que sonara la campana para poder irse a casa. Hoy no
fue un buen día. Los estudiantes han tenido exámenes toda la mañana y también hacía demasiado
frío para salir a correr a la hora de la comida. Pero justo antes de acabar el día, su suerte cambió.
El profesor dijo: «Tengo un anuncio importante. Las noticias dicen que esta noche va a nevar y
que podría ser una tormenta de nieve. Si se convierte en tormenta de nieve podríamos tener un
Día de Nieve mañana». Esto hizo muy felices a los niños, que chocaban los cinco y gritaban
«¡Día de la nieve!». Incluso el profesor tenía una gran sonrisa en la cara. El único alumno que se
quedó sentado con cara de confusión fue Mateo, el nuevo amigo de Daniel, que acababa de
mudarse a Nueva York desde la soleada Florida. Daniel se acercó a Mateo para darle la buena
noticia.

Danny was sitting in class looking out the window. The skies were grey and it looked freezing cold out. Then snowflakes started falling. At first there were just a few but in a few minutes all Danny could see was falling snowflakes. Just then the teacher told the class that this was going to be a big storm and tomorrow would be a snow day. Everyone started clapping and laughing and high fiving each other!

At first there were just a few but in a few minutes the sky was full of snowflakes and that was all Danny could see. Just then the teacher announced that this was going to be a big storm and tomorrow would be a snow day. Everyone started clapping and laughing and high fiving each other!

They had testing all morning and then it was too cold to go outside to run around at lunch time. But just before the end of the day, his luck changed. His teacher said, “I have an important announcement. The weather report says there is a snow storm coming tonight, they say it might be a blizzard. If it turns into a blizzard we might have a Snow Day tomorrow.” This made the kids so happy, they were high fiving each other and yelling “Snow Day!” Even the teacher had a big smile on her face. The only student who just sat there with a puzzled look on his face was Daniel’s new friend, Mateo, who had just moved to New York from sunny Florida. Daniel went over to Mateo to tell him the good news.
